Art Explorium in Kaimuki

Have you ever checked out the Art Explorium in Kaimuki? We went again yesterday with some friends and all our kids had a great time creating. Open ended play with others is good for the soul!
We always have such a good time at this place in cute downtown Kaimuki.  We usually go during their open art time for $5 per kid from 2pm to 5pm. They have more open hours and program listed on their facebook page and their website.

It's the perfect time right now for fun crafts as Valentine's Day is approaching!  Art Explorium really embraces recycling and being "green". I love that about them!
Here's the Art Explorium description from their website ...

"Nurturing tomorrow’s creative thinkers

Art Explorium provides a fun, safe place where children of all ages have the opportunity and the permission to create freely. We firmly believe that art experiences are an important part of every person’s growth and development. So… WE provide the space and materials, YOU provide the ideas and make them happen!
Art Explorium strives to be an eco-friendly organization. Many of the art materials in our studio are items that would normally be thrown in the trash (scrap pieces of fabric, used bottle caps, small boxes, magazines, ribbon, etc.). We collect these used materials from our friends and local businesses, and Art Explorium visitors give these objects a new life as art.
We offer walk-in Open Studio times, Art WorkshopsBirthday pARTies, in-studio Resources for Teachers including in-studio field trips, art supplies, and earth-friendly lesson plans. We look forward to seeing you at Art Explorium soon!"

We love that Art Exlorium has several artistic options whenever we go for their open art time.
Here's their big whiteboard for drawing...

Giant magnet board for free play...

Big chalkboard at kid level!
We know that we could do these creating projects at home but doing it at Art Explorium is more fun because my kids and I get a change of scenery, fresh materials, interaction with friends AND we get to support this great place that embraces creativity and being eco-friendly with recycled materials.

Lots of creation supplies at the ready!

Aprons available to borrow if needed!

A cute little reading nook next to more blackboard space...
A building station with road carpets with toys, blocks, magnatiles, etc...

Creating together!

Letter writing station! The post office is super close so after you're done at Art Explorium, you can walk to the post office, buy a stamp and mail a special letter!

COST -- Again it is $5 per kid per visit during their open art time from 2-5pm in the afternoon.

PARKING -- We parked up the hill a little bit for free on Koko Head Avenue, our friends parked for free at the nearby Kaimuki library and stopped in at the library beforehand.

Hope you check it out soon -- let us know if you go and what you think!
