Hawaii Opera Theatre open house and family day!

We checked out the Hawaii Opera Theatre's open house and family day at the Blaisdell Center this morning. Was a fun time getting to see "behind the scenes" of the Hawaii Opera.

Quite the experience to stand on the huge stage at the Blaisdell Center and look out at all the seats imagining so many eyeballs on you!  My son didn't think he would have the courage -- I said maybe you just get used to it.
The open house/family day offered different costumes to try and a couple different backdrops for a photo -- our kiddos were running around too much, or too shy to catch a picture with boring old mom and dad.
The Hawaii Opera Theatre program offers this kid friendly program to local schools -- check out their website for more information!
Coloring before the doors opened for the family day...
Try on a costume, a hat, a wig!
Check out the props!
A few different real opera singers were on hand to give us a taste of opera singing!
A little display table of set design and how they used to hand paint all sets.

Headed on our backstage tour...

The director's dressing room... Oooo, ahhhh

Cast member dressing rooms...

Lock us up!

We would highly recommend this event for kids of all ages -- follow the Hawaii Opera Theatre facebook page for their next open house/family day event!
