Kalawahine Trail -- up near Tantalus, great views of the Pali!

Looking for a fun, short, easy hike in the beautiful Oahu jungle, through bamboo forests and to a gorgeous viewpoint over the Pali Hwy? Check out the Kalawahine trail! It's about 3 miles round trip to the viewpoint.
Above is the view from the viewpoint on the Pauoa Flats Trail, at the bench!  See map below.
Pretty drive up to the trail start, it is up near Tantalus. Take H1 to the Pali and hop off the Pali towards Tantalus Drive to Telephone road. The trail starts off Telephone road at the start of Telephone Road (Kalawahine Trail), or you can walk up and up Telephone Road off Tantalus Drive to get to Pu'u Ohia trail which will lead you through more bamboo lined trails and finally along a fence line to connect with the Pauoa Flats Trail. I'd recommend the Kalawahine trail -- less up up and down down, more flat and gorgeous!!
Views looking west at the trail start for the Kalawahine Trail.

The beautiful well worn Kalawahine trail.
Sign on the trail -- I thought anywhere in Oahu was native snail habitat?
Neat hairpin turns and fern walls along the Kalawahine trail.
Friend by a beautiful fallen tree and vines on the Kalawahine trail.

You'll reach these neat boards to walk along when the Kalawahine trail intersects with the Pauoa Flats trail. Head to the left to get to the lovely viewpoint.

Gorgeous huge trees along the trail!

Trail start for the Kalawahine trail. We parked safely on the side of the road near the trail start.
See that road right there with the chain across it? That's what you can take up and up and up to get to the Pu'u Ohia connection.

Views of Waikiki and Diamond Head from the trail start.

                          Happy trails! 🤙💗
