Ehukai Pillbox Hike and the Sunrise Shack

Have you ever hiked the Ehukai Pillbox Hike on the North Shore?
Have you ever enjoyed a blue dream bowl or coffee at the Sunrise Shack right by this trail?

The Ehukai Pillbox trail is one of our favorites, it's shaded almost the whole way, and best to go when it has been dry for a week. There is an incline at the beginning which can get very sloppy if it has been raining.

"The Ehukai Pillbox trail is better known as the Sunset Pillbox Hike, because it has some beautiful views of Ehukai Beach (better known as Banzai Pipeline) and the North Shore coastline. Located behind the Sunset Elementary School, this Oahu hike will take you about 30 minutes to climb up to the top."

PARKING -- "The entrance to the trail is located near Sunset Beach Elementary School, right off Kamehameha Highway. Make sure to park in the lot for Sunset Beach Neighborhood Park or across the street in the lot for Ehukai Beach Park. Drink plenty of water—there's a restroom right at the entrance for the park."

The beginning of the trail.
This was on a wet day last Feb (2019).
Once you get up the hill you're rewarded with sweeping views of the ocean!
More of the trail up to where it flattens and takes you through tall pine trees.

When the trail flattens out you'll walk along to two different pillboxes.

Fun little spots at the pillbox. You can also go inside both pillboxes.

Before or after you're hike we'd recommend you try the adorable little Sunrise shack for coffee, acai bowls, and other treats! Find it on the side of Kamehameha Highway!
